Childhood and the 2nd World War had a lasting impact on his creative reflection. One of the most important artists of the 2nd half of this century. 1941-1945 soldier, 1947-1952 studied at the Düsseldorf Academy, among others with Ewald Mataré, from 1961-1972 professor there. 1963-1974 Actions in connection with the Fluxus movement. Represented at every Documenta from 1964-1986 (including Honey Pump at Work in 1977). With his materials felt, copper, fat, wax, Beuys points to energies and textures of matter: storing and flowing, heat and cold influence, insulating and exuding, form and chaos. He creates drawings, sculptural images, spatial installations, multiples and writings, and graphic cycles. His artistic motivation in the sense of the expanded concept of art blurs the line between everyday life and art object. In this way he also transfers the concept of sculpture to the human being up to his social organism.
